Laser holed flex-film proved the best method for packaging fruit and vegetables. The punctured and flexible film pack increases the products’ shelf life and keeps them fresh and tasty. However, it’s not enough to create a few holes on a film and pack to exploit the method’s benefits. FST analysis revealed that different vegetables and fruits require a “personalized” pack. Using the correct size and space between the holes for each fruit or vegetable will bring the desired result. FST has this data and can advise our clients regarding their needs. By the way, we also discovered that some fruit and vegetables are pretty spoiled and, if packed in the laser-holed film, will quickly ripe and rote.

Here are the frequent questions we often get regarding laser-holed packaging.

Q. How to make the holes?

A. This is done by Laser light.

Q. Can I control the dimensions and the location of holes?

A. Yes, by a dedicated vision system integrated into the Laser device.

Q. What material should I use? What’s the size of the holes required? How many holes are needed in one pack?

The answer to these questions is the key to a good and efficient solution. The majority of Laser producers don’t hold this added-value information. FST is committed to designing and producing innovative and reliable machinery. In addition, we look deeper into our client’s needs and try to bring them an added value, like in this case. We have the answers to those questions.

Making Holes with a Laser? How Do you Monitor and Maintain Quality?

The hole made by the laser on the film extends the product's life inside the packaging. The presence and size of the holes are critical, and the lack of a hole or a diameter out of tolerance is enough for the packaging not to be suitable. Precisely for this reason, Feldman ST developed, tested, and successfully installed the system: N.O.A. (No Operator Adjustment) With the N.O.A., the holes are measured in real-time. If there is a defect in terms of presence or size, the defect's correction occurs automatically while constantly monitoring the process. The system has a log-keeping feature for each reel processed. Data such as hole diameter, area, percentage of missing holes, and even photos are recorded into a file. This way, the production remains tracked and available in case of complaints. We also have a customized system of alarms for defect thresholds, which can be programmed directly by [...]
